French (3 hour classes)
DELF Preparation/ Diplome d’Études en Langue Française
Awarded by the French Minister of Education, the DEFL certifies speakers of French as a foreign language in 4 units: general expression, expression of ideas and emotions, written expression and comprehension and in the practical usage of the French language. Most French universities require their candidates, for whom French is a second language, to hold a DELF certificate.
Build your vocabulary, fluency and confidence as you participate in dynamic group activities and lively classroom discussions on a diverse range of topics. This popular course is open to students of all French language abilities.
French (1.5 hour classes)
These 1.5 hour classes provide focused study skills and complement the three hour classes.
Business: Workplace Preparation/Affaires: Préparation au milieu de travail
In this course, student will explore French for employment and the workplace. Students will learn about the hiring process in Quebec by preparing a resume, cover letter and interview. Additionally, students will learn workplace related vocabulary and explore the differences between formal and informal French.
Build confidence and improve fluency through daily practice, dialogues, role-plays and guided conversation.
Debating / Débats
Learn to form logical, coherent opinions then present, support, and defend these opinions in debates. Debates must be able to read and synthesize information, and then summarize and support their ideas. Students will develop their speaking, listening, note-taking, and writing skills, and will improve fluency, confidence, and critical thinking skills.
French around the world/Francophonie
The main goal of this course is to make the students realize how international French can be. Students will not only learn the differences found within this language (accents, dialects, vocabulary, etc.) but also similarities between French communities.
French Business/Français des affaires internationales
Practice speaking, listening, reading and writing in a business context. Topics include marketing, resumé-writing, job interview techniques and effective telephone communication.
French through Drama/Le français par le théâtre
Improve French dramatically with four exciting weeks spent brainstorming, writing, rehearsing and performing an original play. No previous drama experience is necessary.
French through Fashion and Design / Le français par la mode et le design
In this course, students will improve their French language skills while exploring fashion from around the globe. They will study international designers' biographies and talk about the influence of fashion in our everyday lives, and also the negative impact that fashion standards can have on people. Throughout the course, the students will practice their speaking skills as well as their reading skills.
French through films & songs / Française par les films & chansons
This course introduces students to authentic French through the use of films and songs. Students will improve their French listening skills as well as learn about French culture.

International Current Events/Évèntements d’actualité
Master the language of international affairs and keep pace with today's changing political climate. Practice English through debates on politics, economics and law. Instructional media for this course includes television, video and the Internet.
Become an investigative reporter for the ILSC News. Refine writing, vocabulary, grammar and design skills in print format, and through blogging. Students have the opportunity to explore the city, investigate issues that are important to them and build solid interviewing skills.
Listening and Pronunciation/ Écoute et prononciation
Build comprehension of spoken language by practicing listening activities taken from daily social and academic situations.
Media Studies/Études des médias
This course is for those who want to develop their English skills through exploring media, social media and their impact on society. Students analyze both the structure and context of newspapers, magazines, television, radio and the Internet.
People & Places Through Time/ Personnages et lieux dans le temps
Practice spoken French skills by discussing current and historical topics. Pursue personal interests through biographies, presentations, debates and role-play. Improve comprehension skills by analyzing a diverse range of texts and video footage.
Improve your reading skills in the classroom and in the computer lab. Read a novel accompanied by a CD, take part in a book circle and compare its film version to the written word - an exciting and modern approach to reading.

The objective of this course is to stimulate interest in Quebec's culture, politics and history through research and discussion. This course is intended for students who wish to improve their communication skills as well as their knowledge about Quebec.
