Experience the City Year Round
In Toronto’s spring, the flowers start to bloom and temperatures start to warm up, although the weather can still be unpredictable, so be prepared with warm layers. If you want to stay indoors, spring is a good time to go shopping in Toronto’s PATH, an underground shopping complex with around 1200 stores. It’s also a great time to take in some culture by visiting the many art galleries and museums around the city, or catching a film at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival. For sports fans, the Toronto Blue Jays start their season in April, so make sure to catch a baseball game.
Summer in Toronto is hot! It’s the perfect time to enjoy the beach, try paddling a voyageur canoe, or head to the Waterpark at Canada’s Wonderland to stay cool. Summer is also a good time to explore some of Ontario’s incredible outdoor landscapes like Algonquin Park, or Niagara Falls. In the city, there are street festivals, celebrations and outdoor concerts that go late into the night. Don’t miss the Toronto Jazz Festival in June, and Caribana in July, a week-long celebration of Caribbean culture with non-stop music and dancing.
In Fall, temperatures in Toronto start to hit a more comfortable level before the snow starts in November or December . Enjoy a walk in the city’s outdoors and take in the amazing fall colours, or catch an international film, and spot some of your favourite movie stars at TIFF, the Toronto International Film Festival that takes place in mid-September. Weather in the fall can be a little bit unpredictable, so come prepared with some warm layers.
Winter in Ontario is a season of special activities and unique beauty. Hit the slopes or go dog-sledding then warm up to a crackling log fire and a steaming hot cocoa at the end of the day. In the city, get active with free ice-skating in front of the Harbourfront Centre, or explore Canada’s great outdoors and try ice-climbing or snow-shoeing. Get into the spirit of the season with winter festivals, carnivals, and parades, caroling, hockey and a whole lot more! Bring warm clothes and bundle up; there’s so much to do outdoors!
